An adult’s only swimming pool creates the perfect relaxing retreat within the resort.

There are ten restaurants including the gourmet ‘M.B’, managed by a three-Michelin-star chef, the Japanese ‘Kabuki’ and the relaxed ‘Pampa Verona’, serving a unique mix of Italian and Argentinean cuisine.

The breathtaking golf course and golf academy are sure to impress even the most discerning golfer, whilst the secluded sandy beach, set against looming slate cliffs, is a dream with imported white sand and a fantastic beach club.

Blessed with year-round sunshine, the island of Tenerife is an excellent place to escape to during our winter months andalthough the beaches and warm waters are its main appeal, it also has many other attractions which include the emergence of a new breed of deluxe hotels.

Tenerife is known mainly for its busy tourist areas, but there is much more to this diverse Canarian island. If you look further afield, away from the hustle and bustle, you can discover a lesser known side to the island including picturesque towns like Costa Adeje and La Laguna and areas of outstanding natural beauty, such the island's botanical gardens or the national park surrounding Mount Teide.

Lanzarote is located just off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. Being a volcanic island, it has some stunning scenic features such as the longest volcanic tunnel in the world, the Atlantida Tunnel. Despite the volcanic nature of the island, there are several beautiful white beaches such as Playa Blanca and Papagayo.

Gran Canaria is dubbed ‘The Small Continent’ as it has extremely varied landscapes with European, African and American vegetation. Maspalomas is the most beautiful of the many beaches on the island. Natural attractions such as a magnificent thermal spring called Balneario de los Berrazales and other volcanic sights are great for a day's sightseeing.

Accommodation was very comfortable and attention by staff was excellent. All hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The range of food on offer in the Jardin Restaurant was wide. Salad choices were excellent. Vegetables rather boring. Breakfast fruit choices are outstanding! Wines were overpriced in the restaurant Internet Access in the Business Centre was interminably slow but a charge of 10 euros/hour for WIFI was not acceptable Golf facilities are excellent however 6 euros for a basket of 46 balls is extortionate! For comparison, our local London Driving Range charge is £6.50 for 100 balls! We very much enjoyed our stay and I hope that the above comments are helpful

We had an excellent 5 night stay at the Abama. We have been to the Abama several times. The accommodation [Villas] was first class with good and courteous room service. The adult only pool in the citadel was a welcome relief. The Mirador and MB restaurants, although expensive, provided fine food and wine, served in a stylish environment, particularly the MB. The Pampas was chaotic, poorly staffed, as usual and best avoided. We noted significant attempts at cost limitation - not enough water by the pools or in the rooms, slightly scruffy grounds and gardens and some poor cleanliness in some of the public areas.

This was our second visit to this hotel having gone last year. Although it is a lovely hotel, I have to say our second visit was not as good as our first for the following reasons: Despite requesting rooms overlooking the golf course we were initially put in rooms that were on ground floor with no view and very dark. After one night they agreed to move us to a room which was okay but still not overlooking the golf course as originally requested. Although the service was good it didn't have the same feel as last year when staff seemed more enthused. Although the manager on duty was very helpful The main swimming pool was shut for a couple of days due to a large corporate event coming in. One got the feeling this is an area they obviously want to focus on for the future as they got the rooms we wanted!

The staff and service were absolutely amazing and everything was incredibly professional. Our children loved the kids club and came back speaking Spanish. The spa was fantastic and the Thermal Circuit was great. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and would definitely return.

Enjoyed the stay & the facilities. Kids really enjoyed the choice of beach and pools. Only downside was the closure of the buffet restaurant in the evenings during our stay along with the closure of the Japanese restaurant. However, enjoyed it so much that we would all go back.

The stay was pleasant, and the golf course lovely. However, additional food/beverage costs were very expensive (e.g. over 50 euros for two salads and two smoothies).

Our second visit to this fab hotel. Rooms, pool, service & food all great. We visited at the end of July & the hotel was nearly full to capacity but didn't feel like it. The food (& drinks) are expensive so definitly worth booking half board via Travelbeam as it's cheaper than going direct through the hotel. We feel that this hotel is really hard to beat.

Our 4th visit, stayed in a villa suite which is so worth the upgrade. Very much enjoyed our break but the hotel was so much busier in August than the other times we have visited (usually in English school holidays). We didn't like how busy it was and the wait times and service sometimes was not as good because of this. Beach sunbeds were all gone by 11am most days and there were a few large families reserving all the best beds by the main pool which was also annoying. It made having the villa pool all the better as that was always quiet. The hotel made a mistake and thought we were checking out a day before, we thought we sorted this out at check-in by making sure the check-in lady had seen the correct date on our Travelbeam vouchers. However they were ready to kick us out of our room on the day before check out which mean't no maid service or turn down for 2 days and a stressful hour of phone calls and having to show vouchers again to convince them we can stay. Not a great end to the holiday. We won't go again in July or August, we might for Easter or Oct half term again but the prices there seemed much higher than previously so we may try elsewhere next time.

Stayed in the villas last week in July and first week in August 2011. the hotel was busy (as you would expect!) but the villas were still pretty peaceful. Quality of accommodation is excellent; nice sized rooms, great bathrooms and unusually quite aircon! The hotel staff were, without exception, very friendly and keen to help. We didn't eat dinner there much because we wanted to get out and about a bit. We did eat in the Wine bar (tapas) which was "OK" but certainly not brilliant. We also ate in MB, the "only Michelin starred restaurant in the Canary Isles". I can only imagine that the inspectors haven't been for some time. It was one of the worst meals I have had in a long time (and I am honestly not that fussy or demanding!). Cost was about €90 per head and if I had been asked to volunteer a fair price I would have struggled to get above €30 per head (and most of that would have been for wine and service). Really, really poor value for money and hugely disappointing. Drinks in the hotel are expensive (but it is a 5 star hotel) and food is slightly too pricey to be good value. But wine isn't too expensive... Golf course is very good but just a touch pricey at €115 per round (summer rates for residents). A good challenge for all standards of golfer in great condition. Good practice facilities (free to hotel residents) and really nice people running it - highly recommended. So, very nice hotel. Great accommodation. Service good and very friendly. Drinks and food a bit pricey and although the breakfasts were good, the limited evening meals we had were poor. Would we go back? - yes; but we would continue to eat in local restauarants in the evening where the food was better and obvioulsy much better value. MB is dreadful. Is it a five star hotel? On facilities and helpfulness of staff it probably is -but to comfortably fall into the 5 star bracket what we saw of the food would have to improve considerably.

Excellent reception / arrival experience. We had prior to arrival pre-booked in the Mirador Restaurant for the evenings of 21st & 22nd June and received confirmation of this. On checking in our dinner reservations were checked and we were informed that the booking was no longer available on 22nd June due to the fact there was a private booking. It was only when returning home that we discovered an e-mail had been sent on 20th June informing us of this. I feel we should have had much earlier notification of this - thankfully it was not the actual night of the birthday dinner! Having previously stayed at Abama and also earlier in the year having stayed at the 4 Seasons in Sharm el Sheik we did feel that the service element of this hotel was not as slick as previous occasions and what one would expect from a 5 star hotel. Some examples:- Service at dinner in Mirador - waited a long time to be offered a drink on arrival - in fact our starter arrived before we had received our wine. It felt like the staffing levels were not sufficient even though there were empty tables. On leaving the restuarant the staff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves rather than attending to the customers. Tanganiki Bar - on one night the bar was actually open we went in to try to get a drink and waited a good 5 minutes but no sign of any member of staff and eventually we gave up and went to another bar to get a drink. Service in the main lobby bar was slow. On previous stay on entering the breakfast room we were offered a glass of champagne. Not offered once during our stay. The above did not detract from our stay we had a great time - its a lovely hotel but service not as good as previous stay and other hotels.

We went to Abama for 2 weeks for our honeymoon. The hotel was fantastic! Lovely surroundings and beautiful beach. The service was very good, the staff on reception were very helpful and polite. One problem we did have was that the drinks were very expensive!! But overall a fabulous hotel and we had a fabulous time.

What a lovely hotel. The staff were very willing to please. Sometimes, the teamwork was not always 100% particularly in the main restaurant where there was a huge volume of people eating (included in the 1/2 board option). The kids club felt a bit hectic at times and was a shame to leave the children indoors so we ended up taking them to the beach with us. Great to leave them watching DVD's and eating popcorn in the evenings whilst we had a dinner as a couple! The pools were good and the beach great for kids as it is small enough to be able to watch them from your sunbed! THe fresh fruit, juice, towels and cold water were a real treat whereever you are in the resort. The bookings for the restaurants at key times (8pm) was challenging as they got booked up very quickly so I would recommend deciding your bookings early in the week so you are not dissappointed if you cant get into your restaurant of choice - great Japanese, Miramar a beautiful view, beach restaurant good too. Perhaps due to the exchange rate but also the pricing meant that it was not cheap to eat lunch and have drinks! We would love to go there again as the rooms were stunning, service good and all in all a very relaxing week for the whole family.

Great Family Resort! Kids club was a real hit with our 8 and 4 year old - they loved the variety of activities and the chilled out evenings playing games and watching DVDs with the 'amazing staff'. Lots of pools with great drinks and snacks service. The beach is a little small but has a good cafe. Restaurants offered good variety but service not always consistent - we had to wait for our pre-booked table on more than one occasion. The spa is a must and the gym has a great vista and is well equipped. Our room was spacious and of a high standard - the room service very good too. Overall a brilliant resort!

Beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds and great rooms, especially the Junior Suites / Suites. Restaurants too busy for their own good during peak times though. Outwith the peak times they improve if not to quite the standard you might expect of a 5 star hotel. BUT....notwithstanding the restaurants this is a lovely place to be. Our last visit was out third and we will go back again. ABAMA...if you're listening....fix the restaurant service when you're busy. Afterall nobody turns up on spec!

In general, not up to the high standards of previous years. Quality of food and service in the hotel restaurants fell well short of what I expected. I stayed in one of the hotel villas, so had to depend on the hotel buggy service to get around. These were not as frequent as they should have been, which meant long waits. However, the golf course certainly lived up to expectations. Well maintained, with a distinct golfing personality, we enjoyed this very much. To summarise, I would definitely return to the Abama, but would probably try somewhere else first.

Very enjoyable--staying in a Villa is quiet and breakfast was a treat in El Mirador. Attentive staff at the beach and around our villa pool. Only good if you wish to 'chill' as no chance to walk to other resorts - a taxi or hotel transport is necessary. We were happy to walk around the resort and visit the beach and pool. A wonderful site for golfers.

The Abama Golf and Spa Resort in Tenerife has been one of my favourite hotels I have visited over the years. The resort itself was beautiful, the room was luxurious and had a seaview and we were able to view the sunset in the evening. We had a great choice of restaurants and we would recommend the food at the El Mirador. The food was excellent the staff gave us first class service. The bonus was watching the sun setting while we ate. We found the staff at the Abama most helpful, courteous and always on hand for guests. Although we did not visit the Abama for golf (on this occasion )there were plenty of other activities to enjoy such as the various sports classes held. If there was one complaint we would have to comment on no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. The Abama is worth another visit which we are planning to do later in the year.

.......Facilities....... The hotel's facilities were excellent and varied - something for everyone and for all ages. We especially appreciated the fact that there was an "Adults only" swimming pool - very important as I'd taken my 90 year old father and there was a lot of noise from the other large pool, where a lot of children were having fun and splashing etc. ........Rooms....... The rooms and bathrooms were all first class. There was an annoying and ongoing problem with keys and breakfast menus for room service. ........Staff....... The staff could not have been better - they went out of their way to be helpful at all times. ........Food....... The food fell short of 5 star quality (apart from the beach restaurant which was very good indeed - good food, good choice and a divine view. We did not eat in the michelin starred restaurant but we did eat in the other restaurants; the barbecue was so poor we refused to pay (little choice, cold, poor quality cuts of meat etc) This was the only blot on the holiday, which we enjoyed thoroughly. (I would recommend hiring a car as it is isolated.)

I thought this resort outstanding, from the clown entertaining a breakfast, the amazing kid's club, the quality of the rooms and service, right up to the evening open-air movie nights for the kid's complete with free kids snacks. The resort was spotlessly clean and the views down to the sea from the main complex were fantastic. I had a ocean-view suite and an adjoining deluxe room which additionally overlooked the 'garden' with the largest furnished balcony to keep any family happy. Tenerife-Sud airport was a delight also, well organised, clean and well resoursed with eating places and retail shops. I have recommended this resort to all friends and am returning this summer after spending a fantastic half-term week.

On the whole a lovely hotel. Club Abami staff were lovely but general level of service wasn't 5 star. Food was excellent but shame there was no pool bar and waitress service was really poor, you usually couldn't find anyone. Hotel general shop was also poor stocking very little. Had a great time, but very expensive, paid 18 euro for a tuna salad which was a joke. Couldn't be more expensive if it tried. Must say Travel beam were brillant and arranged everything efficiently. Thank you

We had a great time at the Abama hotel. It is fantastic for a family holiday. Our children really enjoyed the kids club and the swimming pools are ideal for lots of fun swimming. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the hotel is very clean. The rooms are large and bathrooms very luxurious. The food is good/great depending on which restaurant you eat at. Beach is lovely and you can drink as much free bottled water as you like! We played Tennis every morning on some really great courts and the tennis coach seemed to be very nice. We didn't play golf but the course looked fantastic. We loved it and had a great time, we didn't leave the resort as there was enough to do, and we were only there for a week. I would recommend this hotel, we would definitely go back to it.

Fantastic hotel with great food and wonderful cheerful people. Very elegant and family friendly. The kids club staff is fantastic. Beach small and not very inspiring so don't go there for the beach go for everything else and the many stunning pools.

We have stayed at the Abama on several occasions and will return. We had an excellent holiday, were well looked after and enjoyed the comfortable, well appointed but now slightly tired Abama villas. The food and service in the Mirador and MB restaurants were very good, particularly in the MB. We had a very bad meal in the Pampas/Verona restaurant because the staff were squabbling until more senior management intervened and sorted them out. Pools were warm and clean and the Spa was great.

In terms of standard of accomodation this hotel was the best we have stayed at. We can't fault the hotel for it's facilities, pools, beach, children's enterntainment and spa. The main issue we had was the hotel's location. You can't walk out of the hotel to a local village, although you can get a taxi for about 5 euros. Consequently you can feel abit cut off from the world. The drinks in the hotel were very expensive, 200ml for a glass of diet coke was 5 euros, gin and tonic around £12 etc. This meant that you didn't have families sat out enjoying the evening and this lead to a lack of atmosphere. We had a great time and the rooms were exceptional but not sure that we'll be going back due to location.

This was our second visit to the Abama and it is a great place to take children for some autumn sunshine. There is a host of children based activities and the whole place has a very family friendly feel to it, from the moment you arrive (take extra toothpaste to cope with all those sweets...) We thought that a few things at this hotel were not quite as good as last year, however. The buffet food was certainly not as good, the fabric of the hotel was a tiny bit faded and it just looked a bit as they are feeling the pinch financially. These things can be self fulfilling, as discerning people will go elsewhere, at this price. It is probably more 4 star than 5. We asked for a kettle and cups and saucers so that we could make some tea at that time of day when children who are going to be staying up late need a quiet hour, but were told that tea bags would cost 5 euros each!!! Admittedly, when I complained I was sent a "complimentary" selection of tea bags. Similarly, we had to pay 25 Euros to hire a DVD player. This grade of hotel should have these, especially in children's rooms, after all, it is billed as very family friendly. Having said all that, we had a tremendous holiday and would still recommend it.

Fantastic hotel with a brilliant service, especially for families. Top tip: water bottles are free everywhere - except if you ask for water at the table for lunch - where they charge you 5 euro a bottle - so if its just the kids that want the water, pick up a free bottle before you sit down!

The hotel was extremely luxurious. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were spotless. It was very easy to get around the hotel because of the use of the golf buggies which were very reliable. The beach was very beautiful and clean. Transfer to and from the airport was excellent as we had a limo to ourselves. The journey took less than half an hour. The only criticism would be that the drinks at the hotel were incredibly expensive and because the hotel was isolated there were no other bars around to go to unless you paid for a taxi. Having said that we had a fantastic time and I would definitely go there again.

I just thought that I would let you know that we have just returned home from a FABULOUS time at the ABAMA. We couldn't fault it at all, and we have been known to be a bit fussy!! The golf was amazing - I ended up playing 5 times!! The staff were great. The pools were fantastic and we loved the beach. the weather was great, which helped. The food was lovely. Pool drinks and snacks were a bit overpriced but then free mineral water everywhere helped. And the transfers by executive limo were a lovely surprise. Even speedy boarding on Easyjet was well worth it!! So, we would just like to say thanks for everything you and Travelbeam did. I am absolutely certain we will return again one day, and if we do, we will book with you, of course! It was pretty empty these days - so we may well do this again at exactly the same time next year.

We had a lovely relaxing time. Also great weather. The kids loved it, especially club Abami, which meant we had a balance of time for ourselves and time with them. It seemed busier than 2 years ago and we did notice that service in the restaurants- especially Pampa/Verona was very slow in the evening- sometimes up to 3 hours for dinner, which did not suit the kids. However the kids club let them go there if we were still eating and they had the buffet a few times. Breakfast room was very busy if you did not get there early, not a major problem unless you were queuing for something hot, plenty of choice! The girls had a couple of tennis lessons which were good, and the aquafit , beach stretch and pilates were also good! Sea was nice too. Would suggest clients carefully check their bill before paying. We realised we had been charged for an extra tennis lesson at 40euro but not till back home! Our room was in a nice location and perfect Would like to go back again. We loved our time at this beautiful hotel. Check-in was, as ever, the most stressful part of the week as our suite was not ready (we arrived before 3pm) but we were then upgraded which made it all easy to forgive. The rooms and facilities are perfect, the adults only pool awesome, the Kids Club great fun (though aimed at younger children - maybe a sports co-ordinater would be good to help involve the older boys), the breakfast amazing - with everything done to the highest of standards and great service. We loved that children ate from their own complimentary buffet at supper as meals were expensive - if yummy! The little blue bottles of cool water at every turn prevented us from suffering from the heat and the trip to the little beach provided a change of pace. And the little touches: the scent of the Bulgari in the bathrooms; the miniature bathrobes and free sweets for the children made us feel very spoilt. Oh and the spa......!

This is an amazing hotel, totally luxurious and very beautiful - around almost every corner there is always something else to admire and marvel at. I would highly recommend it to anyone, and certainly those with kids are very well looked after. My daughter, aged 3, loved the Kids' Club, and the main family pool was perfect for little children (of course the adult only pool was very relaxing too!). The beach is also lovely. The food is expensive but very high quality and children's meals are readily available. Five stars on paper and I'd certainly give it 10/10.

An impressive hotel. Very good food except at the pool bar/restaurant , which did vary. Otherwise excellent food and menus. Value for money is debatable. One expects high drinks prices but not sure about 16 Euro for a G&T! Bedrooms are spacious, well maintained and kept very clean and tidy by housekeeping. As far as a child friendly hotel, on paper this hotel is good. Lots of pools, beach, kids club... all very appealing. However, the hidden costs are difficult to justify for example, 25 -40 Euro per hour for babysitting. The kids club is very good although an obvious after thought and there is only one beach which actually had a 2ft shelf without warning thus not very user friendly for the under 2s. Also the number of stairs is not highlighted - any route to the family restaurant and breakfast hall requires at least one steep stair case to be tackled for which help was never offered!! The resort would also benefit from some form of out door play which is an obvious void and suggests that children are tolerated rather than encouraged. For adults the golf, spa and adult pool is fabulous and the gardens a treat to walk through.

Very pleasant buildings, rooms and excellent facilities. Some of the restaurants were understaffed which led to long delays in service but generally the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were excellent, the Japanese restaurant is very good but the "gourmet" restaurant is a bit pretentious and isn't really worth the money. The big problem is a plague of flies which may have something to do with the surrounding banana plantations but at times made relaxing by the pool, for example, or eating outdoors very difficult.

Unfortunately due to recent storm the beach had been washed away. On several occasions pools were closed for use by large conference party, you pay for all facilities and do not expect any to be unavailable. Food and drink was extremely expensive. Other than that we were very happy!

I stayed at the Abama in early Feb and had a marvellous time. The hotel is huge and there has been no expense spared in its construction (all the electricity is generated by their own tidal power station). The attention to detail is second to none. We were upgraded to a Villa and the rooms were perfect. Lovely views and very private pool. The pool at the Villas was at least 50 to 70 metres in length and was excellent to swim in. It's probably not an ideal place [the villas] for young children as it is definitely more geared towards middle aged couples. There were a great deal of German guests who were very polite and kept themselves to themselves. The staff are very well trained and accomodating. The food in the Pampa Verona restaurant was excellent with plenty of variety. I could not criticise this hotel at all except for the fact that I think they have made a few of the restaurants a bit too exclusive and over-priced. This has resulted in them being pretty empty of customers whilst the others were very busy. The travel agents, Travelbeam were excellent, and I have just booked another week at the Abama with them

Fabulous hotel with great facilities and lovely staff. We have 2 small children aged 3 and 1 and still managed to have a relaxing holiday! We went for 2 interconnecting suites with Sea views and it was a huge success. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The food was good, a special mention goes to the children's buffets which were great when you have small children that need feeding immediately rather than waiting for a food order to arrive. We dined at Kabuki, El Mirador and Palma Verona restaurants and were very pleased with the quality of the food. It is a very expensive resort but it really is 5* and worth every penny. We would love to go again next year.

This is my second visit to Abama. I love the resort and the setting and the staff, but the standard of the food has dropped. There were cockroaches in the breakfast room. The fruit was not fresh. We have been to the Abama before in June 2007 and enjoyed our stay then so rebooked. The villas were still as impressive - very spacious and immaculately maintained and serviced. The gardens and pool area were beautiful too. The only disappointment was the restaurants. The seafood restaurant is ridiculously expensive and poor quality. The japanese expensive and really caters for real japanese foodies. The beach bar expensive and poor quality. The michelin restaurant is brilliant - great service and wonderful food although you couldn't possibly eat there every night. Tapas good value although limited choice. Main pool restaurant for lunches was good and breakfasts brilliant. It is such a shame that they can achieve a standard and price in some of the restaurants yet really miss the mark and have a really second rate experience in others. When I say expensive I mean poor value for money. That said we are planning to return next year as it is a great place for winter sunshine and we really enjoyed our stay.

We have stayed at the Abama on five occasions. The hotel is excellent except for the restaurants which are sub standard. It is a great pity and I cannot understand why they cant get this right. We use several local restaurants which are excellent so it does not really effect us but for families who do not know the area or who have young children it must prove a great disapointment.

Lovely resort for families with young children - especially when we went in late November - lovely and warm but not boiling hot! We didn't use the creche as felt relaxed enough to not feel the need! The childrens swimming pool was wonderful - gentle incline in so children could happily play in the water whilst you relaxed on the lounger watching them. Beautifully designed too - pool having a few big rocks and sand colour on the incline in making it look like a little beach. The beach was fabulous - take a venicular down to it- protected by the winds and with beautiful sand for the children to play in. Little golf buggies take you down to the venicular (3 minute ride) which the kids loved too! Not busy like a public beach too - lovely and clean water/sand etc. Food was good - we did the halfboard option which was definitely worthwhile as restaurants are quite pricey generally. Buffet breakfast provided for all tastes - with a lovely terrace for eating outside too. We had a small suite which was perfect for travelling with two small children. Design was excellent and they were well set up with a bed for one and a cot set up for the second. Decor was lovely - good quality furnishings, linen etc. Bathroom had good strong showers. Only criticism was charge of 30euro for use of a nappy bin for the week and the hotels overzealousness with cleaning towels - not very environmently friendly! Quite pricey generally eg. dinner, spa, but halfboard option definitely helps! A luxurious hotel - transfers were perfect - all set up with child seats and friendly drivers. All very stress free, top quality accommodation and perfect for a break with young children. Golf course and spa looked great although we didn't use it. Gym had excellent equipment and theres also an excellent business center with very fast broadband. Landscaping is beautiful and theres a beautiful big koi pool with beautiful huge koi by the hotel. It is a huge resort but the design helps to make it feel very intimate - apart from during breakfast buffet and some of the larger restaurants when its heaving with people.

When we first arrived we were placed in a room which had an enclosed balcony (room 981) and therefore virtually no view. I complained about this and was told that the hotel was full and they could not help. I persisted with my complaint as the air conditioning was also not working correctly and due to the lack of air the room temperature made it impossible to sleep. Eventually Sunday evening we were moved to an alternative room which was totally acceptable and from then on our stay was very enjoyable. The golf course was excellent. I must say that the prices charged for drinks and wine were very expensive ( a small bottle of coke Euro 5 )and very average wines costing 4 times that paid in the UK. Having said that the overall holiday was very good.

We have stayed at the Abama more than 5 times over the past few years and perhaps surprisingly, have consistently enjoyed the high standards that Ritz Carlton have introduced and maintained. Excellent accommodation, good food, fine beach and effortless service. The only difficulty and misery is getting to Tenerife; Iberia from Heathrow via Madrid is painfully long and tedious. Monarch from Gatwick is also difficult and rarely without an adverse event. BA from Heathrow would be revolutionary.

We had a good overall experience on our recent holiday at Abama in Tenerife. The hotel was up to our expectations, the staff were attentive and the facilities were very good. The only drawback to the holiday is the Easyjet experience which I never enjoy. Best Regards Philip Matton

First class facilities, rooms and truly 5 star service, as one would expect from a Ritz Carlton managed establishment. Food was patchy at times, although the included breakfast buffet is world beating, with the free champagne a nice touch. Our only critisisms would be that the drinks are priced well over the top - a 250ml tiny can of soft drink in the minibars is Eur5! That said, wine is priced relatively well - a bottle of rose in the restaurants is Eur15. Also it is quite a hike to the nearest village if you fancy a different restaurant. Overall, a great place for a week's break. Many thanks to Travelbeam - good value quote and seamless service.

This is a very nice hotel set in lovely surroundings. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and 5 star quality. The staff are excellent, helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The facilities are very good and the swimming pools are kept in good condition. The beach facilities are also very nice and provide a perfect place to unwind. The Spa is excellent and the treatments although expensive are first class. There are a few bad points. The main reataurant where half board guests would eat is very poor and the menu very limited. The food is not very nice at all. On the other hand breakfast is superb. The restaurant near the beach Le Miranda I think it's called and the beach restaurant for lunch are both excellent. There are many flies all day and evening which is very annoying but I suppose they can't do much about them. There are no direction signs in the hotel and being a very complicated building it takes several days to find your way around. The golf is far too expensive at 140 euro when you hire clubs and it is no wonder the course was empty. Generally I would recommend the hotel for 7 days as I think 14 would be too many. Quite expensive for drinks and pool side snacks but it is 5 star and you expect to pay high prices. The hotel was only 30% full and I think if it was 100% full the level of service would suffer dramatically.

Firstly thank you Travel beam for making our holiday so stress-free. You were all very helpful you provided us with every detail we needed to make our holiday relaxed and enjoyable. We certainly will recommend you and will be using your services again. We had a fantastic holiday from flying with easy jet, whom we did have our concerns but were great and very efficient. The Hotel was out of this world. The accommodation was fantastic as we are a family of 5 so the 2 rooms were essential and appreciated. The pools were great for the kids, harvey aged 3 to lucy aged 8 all our needs were covered. Week 2 we found the infinity pool, loved it and the pool staff were very accommodating especially Thomas who was very helpful. Restaurants ok, week 2 the free kids buffet stopped which we felt was unfair. Drinks very over priced. Beach club excellent and also the Kabuki. Dined at the Mirador most times service fine but attention to detail lacking, kids food arrived 1/2 hour after ours and on the sunday before we left service dreadful, slow and disappointing. Whilst we were there Microsoft had their conference and they took over the pool for their dinner, sunbeds were taken away for the day and music played right under our room. A letter advising us of this arrived on the evening saying would be until 10.30 went on until 1. Also reservations booked us into the mirador on sat 5 sept forgetting to tell us there was a wedding, we specifically advised them it was my sons 3rd birthday and they organised a cake, found out by the staff at the Mirador who kindly had to book us in on the 4th instead. The same lady let us down again in the Tapas bar. Overall we had a lovely relaxing holiday and would love to come back, just feel they need to look at various issues as mentioned above. Thank you.

I thought the room was lovely and the hotel was nice and the grounds were lovely, the only thing that let it down for me was the food, unless you ate in the restaurant near the beach overlooking the swimming pool the food was really not good and very expensive. The staff were very helpful, but what did surprise me is that my daughter who is 4 swam in the family pool and there was a life guard but on September the 1st halfway through the holiday he disappeared and also the free childrens buffet disappeared from the restaurants, apparently they deemed the season over and that was that although the signs were still out saying there was a life guard.

Great hotel for the children - enough for them to do without it being frantic. Lovely beach and great service with the buggies and funicular. excellent films on the beach at night for the children - most kids were English though and the films were in Spanish - perhaps do one night in different languages so that families can plan which night they attend. The food was way too expensive though, it was a five star hotel, but with families the food costs needs to be less - £15 for a pint of beer is beyond what is acceptable! Other than that, great.

This is a little lengthy but hopefully useful... Abama Hotel: Faultless - gorgeous rooms, amazing facilities. Full points, I would recommend to anyone. Housekeeping: Immaculate, faultless. Staff: 95% completely above and beyond customer service. Particular commendations to: Vanessa (restaurant booker), Isabelle and Daniel in the Beach Restaurant, Spa Staff (specially Domingo - if you can get him to do your massage- qualified Osteopath!), Door Staff and Lobby bar staff. Swimming Pools: Lovely, but my one serious complaint is that there was not a safe pool where I could allow my 6 yr old son to play whilst I sunbathed (except for tiny one in the Persia Garden which was on the rooof and too hot/ no drinking water available). - Main pool sloped down far too quickly and steeply to adult chest height (too deep for 6 yr old). Not an issue if your kids are competent swimmers though. - Infinity Pool was too deep all around, adult chest/neck height no shallow end at all (and no lifeguards). 10 pools are advertised but we were not supposed to use the Villa Pools? No idea if they were deep or not, but my friends used one and said it was gorgeous. - Adult Only Pool - gorgeous - bliss. Only trouble was you had to get up a dawn to secure one of the few fab 4-posters or double beds (with sumptious cushions!) I always got a traditional sunbed but did suffer from bed envy!:) Spa: Extremely polite staff, and lovely Spa facilities. I spent a LOT of time here (and money!!) The hydrotherapy circuit was lovely (I partook 4 or 5 times!)Was complimentary but had to be booked at least a day before (so not overcrowded which was nice) I had 5 treatements: - Reiki - 120 euros for one hour - not good value for money - I was a little unimpressed and the therapist spoke very little English - Reiki requires fluent communication and there was none. I am a big fan of Reiki in UK and sadly felt no benefit (and it was very costly) - Wrap 160 euros - again Spanish thereapist (same as Reiki). She was lovely but poor communications made some of the treatment difficult. Not worth the money. - Manicure 60 Euros - Marisola (?) - lovely lady, lovely experience, but a little too costly I think for a Manicure (my fault - I didn't check the price first!). - Neck and Back Massage - complimentary one in Garden - LOVELY. Heartily recommend. - Neck and back massage by Adult Pool - 63 euros - by Domingo - amazing masseure, again heartily recommend. - Treina Full Body Deep Tissue Massage - 160 euros - again with Domingo - again, absolutely one I'd recommend - felt like I'd been to the gym but did the trick. Totally worth the money. Restaurants: Breakfast: Amazing. No complaints re food or staff. My one suggestion would be to allow guests to seat themselves, it slowed it right down having to be escorted to tables - we frequesntly we in a queue for 5 or 10 mins waiting to be seated. Method seemed a little random. Pampa Verona: Food always great, but service a bit hit and miss (forgot coffees/ menus etc)I didn't mind too much because I was on hols and in Spanish mode, but a lot of people were moaning about it and it rubbed off on me a bit (I was more peeved that they were complaining so much! Typical Brits) It did seem that there was a bit of a turnover in staff? New faces throughout 2 weeks? Don't know if they have staff retention issues? Beach Club: FABULOUS - Isabelle and Daniel were the BEST. Please commend them, they are really special. Great examples of customer service. (Eric was a little off occassionally - sharp). LOVED the cinema on the beach - but it should start earlier than 9.30pm - bit late for kids to stay up til 11pm - was hard to get them up in the morning. (Brit kids won't siesta! :) El Mirador: Again, faultless. AMAZING staff, gorgeous restaurant (sunset views!), food presented beautifully. Full marks. Los Chozos: Oh dear - this is where the marks plummet - clearly understaffed (or staff too inexperienced?) One particular girl (large German?) was really sullen, verging on rude. Dreadful service, but didn't impact the overall holiday. Beach: Great. Clean and well looked after, but service to beds very slow and a little hit and miss (my point being they could make a lot more money if they staffed the beds better - proactive service (I would've ordered way more drinks if they had!). Kids Club: THANKS YOU!! Fabulous staff and itineraries - my son LOVED it and it meant I had a little mummy time! So thank you xx Feedback: Didn't impact me, but Security a little lapse? Door wide open into the corridor all the time, and a couple of my friends' kids wandered out and off.. maybe a locked door with a window in it would be better? Or a stable door? Security could be stepped up. Golf Course: Immaculate and challenging. Not too busy (even mid August!) Lovely club house. All of the above comments are meant to be constructive - I adored the hotel and absolutely plan to go back, and would recommend to anyone - fabulous, but a few tweaks would make it just perfect.

The hotel is generally very good. The room was spacious and the villa pool was very convenient for us, particularly with young children. The full board option worked well and the flexibility to use all of the hotel restaurants to gain credit of the vouchers to the bill, is a great idea. Our children are not a fan of kids clubs generally so we did not use this one, although we did visit the club and it looked excellent. Negatives: Room service was slow and had items missing. Housekeeping did not leave towels, drinking water and toiletries on several occasions. The main pools were VERY busy and the beach is really not worth a visit. Restaurants are generally very good although MB is over rated and Kabuki over priced. We would recommend this hotel, although having now stayed at 3 Ritz Carlton hotels over the past 4 years, they do need to up their game in terms of attention to detail if they are to compete at the luxury end of the market going forward.

We visited the ABAMA Hotel in Tenerife at the end of September/start of August 09 as a family of four - two adults and two kids (aged 5 and 9 years) and had a really enjoyable holiday. The facilities were extensive and well maintained, the standard of food was high, the junior suite room we had was huge and very plush, the staff were friendly and helpful and the experience was one of relaxation, proper 5 star luxury and good fun. There were a few minor points where things were a bit below what they could be though: > No real safety cover at the poolside or the hotel's private beach - signs say there are lifeguards but this is not the case most of the time so with young children in tow you have to be extremely careful and forget reading your holiday book. > The kids' club seems to be run as more of a drop-in playgroup aimed mainly at the 4 to 6 year-old age group, though the staff were lovely. There are a few more 'grown-up' activities (pizza making, cookie baking) but my daughter felt it was mainly 'for babies' so we did not get too much use out of it. > Staff seemed to be a bit short around the main poolside so trying to order drinks or food there could be a bit difficult. > Even soft drinks are unbelievably expensive (5 Euros for a Fanta - ouch!). On the positive side there are a few nice extras: >Free champagne on arrival. > Free bottled water at the poolside and in the room. > Staff transfer you between different parts of the site (as it's massive) in golf buggies, which the kids loved. > Free DVD hire - lots of movies in English (which is great as TV mainly Spanish channels and nothing for kids). > Free drinks, cakes and sweets in reception in the afternoons - nice touch but also a curse for kids' teeth! So overall, a great hotel and you do get what you pay for. I would happily recommend it - especially for families with slightly younger children than mine. But a few minor improvements needed to make this somewhere I'd go back to again and again.

Stayed for one week - could easily have stayed for two. Found the staff very friendly and helpful - especially Audrey Huttert - Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms Division. Had two standard deluxe rooms, interconnecting with garden view which we found to be very spacious. Choice of restaurants excellent - although pricey (exchange rate with Euro not in sterling's favour). Resort very safe - our children aged 12 and 10 years wandered around freely without causing us any concern. Pools great and fresh towels readily available. Fantastic beach restaurant. Very small negative - service on our first day at the main pool restaurant was very very slow.

A fabulous holiday, especially for young children. The pools and beach are excellent and the quality of the food in the resort has improved dramatically over the past 12 months. Kabuki was a dream. The rooms are of the highest quality and make the 'room part' of the holiday very relaxing. The service at times can be patchy, particularly at lunchtime. Highly recommended.

Generally a pretty good hotel and if they improved on a few small things it would be excellent. I would certainly recommend it to a family with young children and we'd definitely go back again. We had a deluxe ocean view room which was of a good size and nicely appointed throughout and of the quality you'd expect for a 5 star hotel run by Ritz Carlton. Only drawback for us was that the bed was way too hard for our tastes. The food in the restaurants is generally of a high standard and if you like fish, I'd recommend eating in the Mirador and watching the sunset over the sea. The staff at that restaurant were very friendly and efficient and it is also great for young kids, as they do a kids menu and there is an adjacent garden that they can go and play in without annoying other diners. Whilst the food was also generally good at the 'half Italian/half Argentinian' Pampa Verona restaurant, the service was pretty poor. I put this down to it being an early week in July before the new staff have got their act togther but if that's not the case, I'd hate to see how slow it would be if the hotel was actually full. We unfortunately went during a week when the main pool at Los Chozos was closed for maintenance. This would be the usual pool of choice for people with young kids as it has gently shelving sides and it is pretty close to the Kids Club. It looked pretty good from what we could see; just a shame we couldn't use it. As we couldn't use the Los Chozos pool, we used the Mirador infinity pool instead, although, as this doesn't have a shallow end at all (pretty constant 1.2 metre deep) it isn't ideal for kids if they can't swim unaided. If however, you do have kids who can swim and they don't want to be in and out of the Kids Club all day, it would be great. It is also close to the beach so you can easily head down there if you want a change of scene. It was heated to a nice temperature and is slightly salted rather than heavily chlorinated. The beach is great and gently shelving. It is very safe for small children due to the offshore breakwater which means there are only very small waves despite this being the Atlantic. I'm sure I read somewhere that it is meant to be a private beach for the hotel but that is clearly not the case, as it is heavily used by locals at the weekend. It was however pretty quiet during the week. Lunchtime food at both the Beach and the Mirador bars is pretty much what you'd expect (sandwich/burger/salads etc) for a hotel of this type. The kids food is also very reasonably priced which is a refreshing change for a 5 star hotel.

The flights with Monarch went very smoothly and I was delighted that I had been made aware that one could purchase seats with extra legroom. The transfer went smoothly to Tha Abama. The rooms which we had were comfortable and well equipped and I was impressed we were given copious quantities of bottled water. I was told I would be upgraded to a Seaview room. I would have called the rooms which we were allocated side seaview rooms. The bathroom was well designed. The staff were most pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was very good with an excellent choice. It was an added bonus that we were given an english newspaper at breakfast. On the downside however I was not pleased that Travelbeam had not told me that the main pool was closed for renovation and that the Michelin starred Restaurant was closed. I was assured by the hotel that you would have been informed. Other guests told me they had been told in advance. The fact the pool was closed made the other pools busy and the Adult only pool was open to children. The Italian Restaurant and El Mirador served lovely food . The setting for ElMirador was idyllic. The Beach Restaurant had a beautiful setting and the food was of a high standard. Service could be slow. All in all we had a great holiday but the hotel is quite isolated so would not appeal to people wanting something other than a holiday with Golf Swimming Tennis and relaxation.

We didn't seem to have the same kind of choice of restaurant this year as the Japanese Restaurant was closed, and the Michelin Restaurant always appeared closed. A big plus this year was the serving of lunch at the Beach Club Restaurant, with particular reference to the barbeque. The lamb chops were to die for!! As usual the staff were excellent and Guest Relations particularly helpful. The Pool Service was also excellent with lots of little treats during the day which were much appreciated.

Everything about this resort was very good, the bedrooms, beach, restuarants, pools spa etc etc, the only disappointment was there was no WIFI in the rooms as it was promissed, there was WIFI on the beach but that was chargable, and in the Hotel, the only place was the Piano Bar and it was very slow, so it has costs extra to use the mobile phone 3G signal to access the internet, to do the Banking, which is one of the most importnet thing I still have to do everyday, no matter where in the world I am. Otherwise I would be happy to go back in the future.

Hotel and facilities are very good and probably worth the high cost of staying there, however out of the 10 Restaurants only the seafood one was what I would have expected in a 5* hotel, we didn't eat at the Michelin * restaurant as was not suitable for children and many of the other restaurants counted in the ten weren't actually open after 6 pm. Villa Suite was very nice and worked well for young children. All in all a very nice hotel but be prepared for a high cost of living!

We had an excellent holiday. Room, ambience, facilities, pools beach were all fantastic and we would definitely go back to this hotel. The quality of the food was excellent. One criticism only. As we had a small child, we were limited to using the main hotel restaurant ( verona / pampa) and we felt the menu was limited for adults over a seven or fourteen night period. Clearly, if we had been able to use the other restaurants on site, this would not have been a problem but other parents also made the same comments.

This hotel was excellent in every respect. Food excellent although exceedingly expensive and that. Isnt just taking into account the ratio of pound to euro. Specialty restaurant superb but again, very expensive. Rooms very good. Beds exceedingly comfortable. Bed linen changed every day. Very clean. Rooms of a good size. Swimming pools very good to swim in and no chlorine to sting the eyes. Layout and design of hotel very good with abundance of flowers and plants everywhere. Beach area delightful. Hilly but there are 'golf' buggys to escort you everywhere around the complex. The buggys can be hired for a cost per day or you just telephone and the staff will come and collect you. Service excellent. Every employee was smiling and wanted to please guests. General Manager. Excellent. Could not have been more helpful. The only one factor I would add would be that if you are a couple looking for peace and quiet then the 'right' time has to be picked during the year if you want to stay at this hotel because this is definately a very high class hotel for children under say the age of eight and below. When we arrived there were 300 children in the hotel due to Easter Holidays and it was bedlam. Our hearts dropped, but after three days or so the parents and children left and peace was restored and it was delightful. Very quiet. The hotel is situated on a penisular and you definately do need a car to get around. Taxis' very expensive. A 10 minute journey to the nearest town was £20 return. A 20 minute journey to Las Americas was £46 return. Yes, we would definately return.

The Abama Hotel was very nice; good location, very clean, beautiful gardens with friendly and helpful staff. We weren't there during a school holiday but there seemed to be a lot of children staying at the hotel. There was an adult only pool which was a very good idea. It was very quiet and relaxing here, with big day beds to lounge on. However, there were no 'adult only' restaurants and most were full of very noisy children so the ambience was similar to eating at a McDonalds! The hotel staff didn't comment on the noise and I think the parents were too used to it. This was a real shame as the food was very good. The gym was very well equipped and there was also a studio area where they did yoga lessons which were good. The spa was lovely but unfortunately we couldn't afford any treatments. The weakness of the pound against the Euro made eating and activities at the hotel very expensive (not the fault of the hotel). Overall we had a lovely time; only spoilt by the many noisy children in the eating areas.

Excellent holiday. Slight delay at the airport waiting for another family to arrive, then we had a private transfer. Abama beach/sea view villa stunning, you definately need the golf buggy as it is a large resort, some uphill travelling. Good kids club although they did not always stick with the listed activity. Food was very good with a large variety available. A good family resort, very noisy busy etc. I would not go during the school holidays if I were just a couple. We would return to the Abama.

The hotel itself was fantastic, while large not high rise, and very easily manoeuverable, even with 2 small children. Our room, a suite, was excellent with a massive verandah overlooking the golf course and sea. The service in the hotel was impeccable and they couldn't do enough to help. The food was good if a little overpriced, especially the Japanese restaurant, and the service in the restaurants was fine if not up to the same service as the rest of the hotel. The pools were great, our kids loved them, and there was an adults only pool so that if your kids are in the kids club you don't have to be bothered by anyone else's kids. The kids club was of a very high quality too and they did some really great and creative things with the kids. My only gripe really was that the food for the kids was a bit poor, burgers, nuggets and chips, that kind of thing. It's ok now and again but sometimes you want your kids to have something a little healthier!! All in all it was a great trip, we had a very relaxing holiday and the kids enjoyed every minute of it. Will be going back (if I can afford it!!)

Lovely hotel with a most beautiful beach. Great for kids - the food for kids is free, the kids club is flexible - no need to book in advance or book time slots, just drop in and collect when you like. The staff in the kids club are better than I've seen in any paid for nursery in the UK! I went to this hotel last year in April and back this year in April again, but this time Easter week. Although the hotel seemed full, there's never a chase for towels by the pool or at the beach, and it still keeps a relaxed atmosphere. Great food and lovely staff, in a beautiful setting. And I'll say again, a most wonderful ride down a little road to the beach in a golf cart, and then a 30 second cable car ride down to the most glorious white sandy beach in a little bay. Highly recommended for when you want a winter getaway to a beautiful sunny place and don't want a long plane journey. There's nothing around the hotel, so if you want a stroll out at night to a local town, you won't get that. But if you want a rest in a beautiful setting with a lovely spa and the chance to visit a different swimming pool and the beach every day (without hauling towels around or having to get up at 7am to secure your spot!) then go here.

Excellent resort. We were lucky to be upgraded to a villa, which was superb. Service was a little patchy at times, but it was Easter and the hotel was running at near capacity. As soon as the mob left, things got better and back to normal. Food was good, but MB's was not worth the €500 for 4 people. For my wife's birthday I arranged for dinner on the beach which I have to tell you was the most amazing experience. She says it rates as one of the best nights of her whole life. We are definitely going back, BUT (and this is worth noting) we would take fly repellent with us. The flies outside where constant. They don't bite, they are just irritating. I know the hotel is working on it and fly repellent would do it. Great hotel.

We had a fantastic holiday in Abama. The hotel was beautiful, very classy, clean, well run, staff very friendly. Fantastic swimming pools which tended to have people 'reserving' sunbeds very early in the morning and then often not using them. Very irritating, we felt the hotel should do more to stop this happening. The food was very nice despite reading some reviews to the contrary. Our children really enjoyed the kids clubs which seemed to be well run, however my husband was less than impressed with the security when collecting children. We really enjoyed our time at Abama and look forward to returning.

Stayed at Abama in Tenerife for 1 week with 4 kids under the age of 7. Had a really great time and will definitely consider returning. Staff very friendly and attentive and service good. Added bonus that all children eat for free with a paying adult, which was much appreciated as we were feeding 4 kids at lunch and dinner. Even on odd occasion when had to pay for kids food (at the beach) was very reasonably priced compared with other top end hotels. Resort big enough to keep us happy for the week - no need to leave. Kids club put on good entertainment too - lady who ran the club was especially good. Had inter-connecting room in hotel - this worked well. Villas more expensive and no self catering facilities, so didn't seem worth paying the extra just for a living room. Well done Travelbeam - hopefully we will be back!

We were upgraded to a villa (with golf buggy) and it was lovely - nice to be away from busy main hotel and have a separate pool etc especially over Easter weekend when it became really busy. The food in all restaurants was very good, especially El Mirador, inspite of some unfavourable reviews on Tripadvisor. Staff were really friendly and helpful and went out of their way a number of times for us in small ways. My only complaint, which is very minor, was that my children (aged 7 and 4) weren't allowed to have a golf lesson because they didn't have a polo shirt with collar, which seemed a bit excessive!

The hotel looks a real monstrosity as you approach it from the road. Lovely green surroundings but the sheer size and colour of the complex gave real cause for concern. However, as soon as you enter the gates all that concern goes away. The reception given by the staff and the efficiency of check in, going to your room and bags arriving was typical 1st rate Ritz Carlton standard of service. We had a 'villa' on Calle 1 which was basically a large open plan lounge and dining area, separate large bedroom, beautiful spacious bathroom and full balcony terrace. The lounge area was a bit sparse of furniture and the sofa was a sofa bed and very low. But very comfortable. The pillow menu was a nice touch. The restaurants are plentiful (11 I think in total?) and serve very nice food. We dined in MB's (Michelin star restaurant) twice and this was on par with the Waterside in Bray UK. Excellent ! The Italian was very nice. Fish bar was divine, pool bar very nice. Breakfast was plentiful and huge in selection of everything, but a complete and utter 'bun fight'. This is not the hotel but how guests approach the concept of buffet breakfast. Very COSMOS 3* attitude. Get room service and save your sanity. The complex is very hilly and steep. However, the hotel constantly have golf buggies running up and down the main stretch and you flag one down and jump in. Very neat and extremely useful. The staff are efficient and have good English (there was, as there always is the odd few that are not as attentive as others, but on the whole they are very good.) The hotel is exceptionally well thought out and planned. The more you pay for your room or the more you pay for your meal the more privacy and intimate it becomes. This is a good balance for those wanting a quiet holiday versus those who have children with them. We don't have any children but we both commented on the fantastic children's club and there is entertainment available until very late into the evening for them. On the whole a very good hotel providing many wonderful added touched spoilt by children who are not under the control of their parents. (We are not anti-children by any means). My husband used the Spa and was disappointed that we didn't have more time at the hotel for me to use it too!! The last day was wasted for us as we didn't fly home until late evening and the check out was 12noon. The was no option for late check out and no facilities were offered. Even a locker and a shower in the gym would have been useful. So we left the hotel and went sight seeing.

The property is in excellent condition and well maintained. The room was a good size with a large balcony. The "ocean view" was in the distance and partially blocked by a wing of the hotel. The beds were a bit on the hard side but the pillows were good. The TV channels selection was not great - of the 6 English channels, 5 were news stations! There was no movies or TV shows available in English. This is not really acceptable for a property of this calibre. The pool area was really lovely - and we particularly liked the adults-only pool. The pool beds were very comfortable and they passed out water/juice at regular intervals. A really nice touch. The landscaping around the property was just amazing. The grounds were impeccable. The disappointments of the hotel were: the beach, the food and the service. Although a beach resort, the hotel is actually on a cliff overlooking the water. The beach itself is a tram ride away (and then down a cable car). It is a beautiful beach but not as acessible as I had hoped from the hotel. The food was also below expectations. It was expensive and not of the quality that the prices would indicate. Service in the restaurants, and indeed the entire hotel, was spotty and not very attentive. It was not the level of service that is expected at a Ritz-managed property. Overall the property was very nice but not up to the standard that we expected from the prices.

Whilst the hotel is a great place to stay it is becoming far too expensive to eat and drink there. We had a villa suite with 20% discount but felt that they took this back in extremely high charges. A meal for two with a reasonable bottle of wine in the top M & B restaurant was 250 euro.We struggled to get less than 150 euro in any of the others even the wine bar with tapas. The golf green fees for residents is also 125 euro /round which is also prohibitive. So while the place is wonderful and all staff extremely helpful and courteous the prices of pretty much everything were noticeably higher than our previous 2 visits. I realise that some of this is due to the exchange rate but it really is starting to put us off and I can afford it.

The hotel was excellent and lived up to expectations. The place was immaculate at all times both inside and out. The planting upon entering the site was like entering an oasis, beautiful, colourful and extremely well tended. The pools were lovely and never crowded. The beach too was good and the swimming secure and protected. The staff were plentifull, very friendly and very helpful. The restaurants were plentiful and, again, not crowded. The food was good BUT the prices of the food was too high - we live in London and still we found these prices much too much. The Easyjet flight was comfortable. All in all it was a very good holiday, we did enjoy ourselves and came back feeling happy and rested.

We enjoyed our recent stay at Abama. The resort is very attractive, the villa room which we had was lovely, good size, great bathroom, lovely view, and the gardens were magnificent. The staff were invariably polite and friendly, and had a real "can do" attitude. The golf course was a real challenge, not merely "resort golf". There was an interesting programme of (free) walks, fitness classes etc. Food however was a bit of a problem, average quality and eye wateringly expensive. The expense was partly due to the lowly rate of the pound but even so it was disappointing. The included buffet breakfast was adequate in a typically North American way, apart from the coffee which was more unreconstructed British Rail. We didn't try the 3 star Michelin place nor the Japanese place. The Mirador restaurant had nice views and was the best of the rest but still very expensive and not brilliant food. Pampa and Verona was the worst - expensive and poor food, and completely lacking in atmosphere. After 3 indifferent dinners we jumped ship & took a taxi each evening to the local village, Playa San Juan, where there was more choice & atmosphere, particularly 2 restaurants overlooking the port, Marsala & Marlin. Marsala was cheaper & had a more interesting menu, Marlin ws about the same price as the Abama restaurants but better quality & more choice.

The Hotel, room and service were excellent. Staff were always pleasant and extremely obliging. It was suggested we booked half board. The vouchers provided could only be used for dinner and not lunch. Unfortunately our plane was delayed on the way out and it was too late for us to eat. Since we could not use the voucher for lunch we were unable to use it on our final day so one voucher was lost. The golf course has beautiful views and again the staff were always on hand and very helpful. The course itself is extremely challenging and borders on the 'unfair' for the average golfer. Some holes are just too difficult for 'holiday' golf. Despite these two minor problems the resort and hotel were excellent and the whole package most enjoyable.

Staff are fab! Rooms are fab! Facilities are fab! Breakfeast is very good! Lunches are fab! Dinner is disappointing in La Pampa. Dinner is okay in the tapas bar and seafood restaurant. Dinner is terrible in Kabuki Japanese. Golf course is fab tee to green with amazing views but the greens are too tricked up and are silly on a resort course let alone a championship course. I took a lesson from pro Paul Russell who was first class and the Academy layout is one of the best anywhere. Wine is good value, beer okay, spirits are a bit excessively priced for a duty free island! The hotel layout, the main pools, the infinity pool, the beach club are all world class and the service at each is just right! The only disappointment is the food at night - does not match the levels of the quality during the day - though I must add that the salads at any time were terrific! A small note to add is that we did not eat outside the hotel at all and my wife picked up a bad stomach upset on the Sunday night and spent Monday and Tuesday feeling lousy. (we are in our mid forties and rarely get upsets! We would return if we knew that consistancy could be guaranteed in the evening kitchens - let us know if others have experienced this and when Ritz-Carlton have put this right. Louise was fab in looking after our booking and we would like to thank all t Travelbeam for their kind attention. Best Regards.

All staff excellent friendly and helpful. Views + setting excellent. Food offerings pretty good even though the hotel was quiet. MB restaurant is not a Michelin starred restaurant let alone 3 star, but is inferred it is. (It deserves one though). Verona/Pampa Tapas both very good. Breakfast buffet excellent. Facilities very good; though a bit disconcerting when conferences take over the drawing room, art gallery etc. Large firework display could have been alarming for some at midnight with loud bangs and no prior warning from the management. Pools: some looked like they could do with cleaning, and when there was a windy day it took days before the management responded by clearing up the debris. They weren't busy so this could have been done quicker I am sure. Spa is great. Free yoga lessons, great gym. Golf course excellent. But why have rules about dress when the Man City football team and others can play in their T shirts, with shirts hanging out, combat trousers: makes the rules meaningless? I suspect that a number of the players especially older ones would have struggled to get a 36 handicap! £125 inc buggy with sat nav worth it. Golf pro very helpful. Rooms and bathrooms comfortable but not designer cutting edge. Have stayed in Ritz Carltons in the USA; this a bit more laid back. Weather staff facilities conspired to make us hardly leave the place for two weeks! Would return.

Overall we enjoyed the stay and the standard of the Hotel was 5 star . We felt the main criticism was the cost of food and drink which we felt excessive but we would recommend to wealthy friends.

The hotel itself was lovely. It is set in beautiful gardens with fantastic swimmingpools for kids and adults. The rooms were lovely and very spacious with a very nice balcony. Great choice of restaurants. Staff were very attentive and very good. Our criticism was that they did not make Christmas and New Year feel special and that the hotel was very expensive. This was especially so for lunches,a club sandwich cost 14 euros by the pool. The cheapest option for the New Year Dinner was a buffet with drinks included at 130 euros each plus 75 euros for children and the promised fire works display never materialised. So despite this being a nice place to stay you can not help feeling that they are out to get as much money as they can from you and that you are just another number in the hotel, which does not make your holiday feel special.

Great hotel. Nice welcome glass of fizz. Veyr clean rooms. Lovely warm swimming pool. Japanese restaurant great. Kids club great. Expensive hotel but there are savings, eg free kids' buffet for lunch every day, free bottles of water by the pool and on the beach. New Year's Eve dinners were prohibitively expensive so we ate outside the hotel in a lovely restaurant in Alcala. Would definitely go again.

Excellent Hotel. The facilities were fantastic. The Service was excellent, especially in the Restaurants where they were more than happy to accomodate requests and cater for children. The Beach was beautiful and immaculately clean. The main pool area for kids was safe and easily accessible, and heated. The main criticism I had was the cost of the Babysitter. At 30 euros an hour this was just outrageous and way over any other hotel I had been to. This meant that on quite a few nights we took the kids out with us and also when having a baby sitter for the night were quick to get back.

Hotel and staff were excellent. Golf course has some of the most difficult greens to putt especially if the pins are in tricky places. Only real complaint relates to the rearaurants. I do not like Japanese food so that was a no go. I enjoy eating in Michelin restaurants but, unfortunately the menu at this one was too over the top for me. The other restaurants were all fine as far as the food is concerned but the menus were too alike and the choices were minimal. On the whole a great resort with fantastic potential when Ritz Carlton really get to grips with what they will make it into

Villa Room - fabulous - large room and bathroom, both very well appointed. House-keeeping excellent. Grounds immaculate. Staff friendly and attentive. A la carte breakfast at the Mirador was not available, despite the fact it was stated in the literature and on the website, it is only aparently available in "high season". Four of the advertised restaurants closed at 6pm. Was really disappointed about this. Of the remaining: The Argentinian, the Itallian and the Verrandah had the same menu - in my mind, that quantifies them as one restaurant. We ate there twice. Food was okay. The Sports Bar had three different sports showing at all times - all with the sound on! Couldn't eat there because of the conflicting noise. Mirador Restaurant was good, but due to the limited menu we only ate there once. At other times took a taxi to other areas to find better selection of restaurants. Didn't eat in the gourmet restaurant as reviews we read were not very positive so we were reluctant to take a chance at the prices charged. Golf driving range, spa and gym all super.

Fabulous. My family and I were looking for a holiday of sun and total relaxation. This is exactly what we got. The hotel was perfect, the range of activities were great depending on how much or how little we felt like doing. The overall experience was great - Travelbeam made the entire process seamless. Thanks for an excellent holiday.

Plus points: Beautiful rooms with large terrace with sunbeds, table, chairs. Service fairly good (by European standards) and good choice of restaurants. Immaculately kept grounds and lovely pool areas. Large no of pools (6?) means that there's no race for sunbeds. Short distance from airport. On the negative side: The hotel is very large, 500 rooms which makes it a little impersonal and service at times can be haphazard, particularly at breakfast which is a bit of a scrum frankly and needs sorting out. Food and drink very pricey (even given the £/euro) eg 6 euro for a small coke round the pool. The main downside for us though (and for anyone with children) was that the pools are unheated and chilly. It does not get hot enough in the Canaries to get away with unheated pools.

Pros - great beach, great villa rooms and private pools, great golf and tennis facilities, great breakfast, great 24hr gym. Cons - very expensive food and drinks, very expensive green fees, very hilly site with inefficient buggy service, too many restaurants serving average food at a high price. The corporate side of the hotel is to evident, when they have a large function , they close facilities to regular hotel guests.

Having said that we had a fantastic time and I would definitely go there again

Abama exceeded our expectations. The rooms were superb, very clean, spacious, the most luxurious linens and pillows, and lovely bathrooms. The resort, pools and gardens were delightful, couldn't fault them. The beach was nice with the novel glass elevator. The food however was a little dissapointing, it was very expensive for the quality provided, however breakfast was great. All in all, we loved it, would go back and would recommend it.

The Hotel was one of the best we have stayed at although the pinkness took some getting use to. The Hotel staff were very polite, The gardens the swimming pools were all first class. As you would expect at these 5* Hotels everything was very very expensive. With £ Euro exchange the Abama is not a hotel to go to on a budget. We did have a slight problem in that there was no car to meet us at the airport to take us to the Hotel. I rang the Hotel and they said they had no request for us to be picked up. We ended up getting a Taxi from outside the airport.
